Coming to Consensus

A Dialog with Defenders of Wildlife

Visits were conducted with more than 30 people in Washington DC August 21-23 to obtain reactions and input on HR 2646, Title II, Subtitle F, Sec. 256, "The Farmland Stewardship Program."

Groups visited included at least one representing the following constituencies -- farm organizations, commodities, state agencies, conservation, environmental advocacy and sportsmen.

This input was used to draft a proposed revision to the language contained in HR 2646, Sec. 256.  This proposal was circulated to all people who took part in the August 21-23 meetings and comments were encouraged.

Defenders of Wildlife took advantage of this opportunity to outline seven concerns about the proposed language and to invite a dialog on these points in an attempt to reach agreement.

You may view the dialog that took place on each point by visiting the links listed below.

This dialog is still continuing.  Updates to the dialog will be posted as they become available.
